Youth Health Advocates (YHA)

We are a group of youth advocates who are working together to support and foster youth wellbeing and mental health. Our focus is on positive youth development, prevention, and community engagement. We host youth leadership trainings, social events, regional summits and advocacy projects. Our goal is to reinvigorate and build a stronger, healthier Lopez.

YHA can be recognized out in the community by their hummingbird logo YHA’s hummingbird is an image that represents the mission, value and Lopez vibe. How many of us are inspired by Anna or Rufus in our yards all year? Hummingbirds symbolize: caring, joy, healing, renewal and strength. All concepts that also represent Youth Health Advocates.
Upcoming YHA events include outreach & education at various community happenings, Teen Movie Nights, the Regional Youth Prevention Summit here on Lopez in May, and more! To get involved, please contact satya@lifrc.org

Orgullo Latino
Orgullo Latino was created to provide a bilingual and bicultural space where 8th-12th grade students can explore their identities, discuss social issues affecting them, ask for academic support, and engage in positive community activities. This program matters because it empowers youth to take agency over their learning and shape the curriculum based on their own interests. By co-creating the learning experience, students develop a deeper sense of ownership and connection to their education as well as find ways to serve their communities. Youth who are a part of Orgullo Latino have become bilingual community CPR trainers in partnership with Lopez Fire & EMS, hosted mentorship dinners with visiting artists and are partnering with YHA to present the After Party in May which will be open to all youth attending the Youth Prevention Summit.
