On Lopez Island, we understand that home is more than just a roof over our heads—it’s warmth on a cold night, a place to gather with loved ones, and the foundation for stability and well-being. Unfortunately, with rising costs of utilities, rent, and food, many of our neighbors find that maintaining these basic comforts are a source of stress.
According to the 2023 United Way Pacific Northwest ALICE report and 2020 census data, 37% of our island struggles to afford basic needs and 67% qualify for food bank assistance. In 2024 alone, LIFRC provided rental and transportation assistance to 246 individuals, utility assistance to 112, health insurance enrollment help to 75, and distributed 108,869 pounds of food to 1,528 people through the Lopez Food Share.
At the Lopez Island Family Resource Center, we believe that healthy households are the cornerstone of a thriving community. That’s why our Household Support Programs connect our neighbors with the resources they need. Whether it’s helping families and individuals navigate utility assistance through OPALCO’s Pal program, applying for SNAP benefits, guidance with health insurance enrollment, or providing a safety net during times of financial strain, your support makes a real difference in our neighbor’s lives.
