We are thrilled to spotlight a generous contribution to the Lopez Food Share from Wellpoint Washington, Inc., whose support for LIFRC programs stretches back to 2017.
On October 16th, we welcomed David Escame, Director of Marketing and Community Relations for Wellpoint Washington, Inc., who traveled to Lopez Island bearing a $5,000 donation. After arriving by ferry, David toured the Lopez Food Share, met our dedicated volunteers, and experienced the famous Lopez Wave firsthand!
This donation will help provide essential items such as butter, bread, and other staple foods for the month of November, ensuring that our community continues to have access to fresh, healthy meals.
Community connections are truly the foundation of the Lopez Food Share. Local businesses like Dingdong’s Garden, Fruit City, Grow-a-Row, Holly B’s, Lopez Community Church, Lopez Village Market, Sweetbriar Farm, and Thorton’s Garden, alongside countless community members, have been instrumental in making the program a success.
We’re proud to partner with local farms and food businesses, including Barn Owl Bakery, Finley Vern Fish, Flint Beach Ohana Farm, Goosefoot Produce, Horse Drawn Farm, North Star Farm, Stonecrest Farm & Graziers, Sunnyfield Farm, and Watmough Bay Farm. These partnerships enable us to distribute local produce, supporting both our local economy and community health.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who continues to support the Lopez Food Share. Your generosity ensures that over 1,400 adults and children in our community have access to healthy food.
It is important to note that, from January through September, we received an incredible 8,483.98 pounds of fresh and dry food donations. Special thanks to Doug Benoliel of Sweetbriar Farm for his generous contribution of 2,982.82 pounds of produce, and to LAPS (Lopez Animal Protection Society) for donating 1,734.38 pounds of pet food to help support our community’s furry friends.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who continues to support the Lopez Food Share. Your generosity ensures that over 1,400 adults and children in our community have access to healthy food.
