Prime Time Bilingual Family Reading Program Returns!

LIFRC is excited to announce the return of the PrimeTime Bilingual Family Reading Program! This winter, Preschool Families will have the opportunity to gather each week for 6 weeks to promote family engagement and literacy in a warm, supportive environment.

During each weekly session, families will come together to share dinner, read stories with skilled moderators, and engage in discussions and activities centered around ideas and themes found in children’s literature. We have chosen bilingual books, which each participating member will get to keep, and hired bilingual community members to have rich discussions in all participants’ native languages.

Nourishing Minds and Bodies

Families will bond together over a hot, nutritious meal, thoughtfully selected to reflect cultural diversity. Fan-favorite meals from last year are returning, including a delicious dinner donated by the homeschool group. Meals will also be provided by the Lopez Latina catering group. Sharing a meal not only fosters a sense of warmth and togetherness but also ensures that families are nourished and ready to fully engage in the program’s activities.

About PrimeTime

A program of Humanities Washington, Prime Time gives families tools to explore the big ideas in children’s literature, inspiring them to read, connect, discuss, and learn together. By building critical thinking skills and fostering family engagement, this program lays the foundation for a lifelong love of reading. The carefully selected bilingual books spark meaningful discussions on themes such as community, courage, resilience, and more.

A Community Effort

This is a whole community endeavor, with multiple organizations participating in various ways. Lopez Island School District (LISD) has generously opened their doors to our program this year so that we can host more families than the Family Resource Center space allowed for.

This will be another amazing opportunity for preschool children to have a positive experience with Elementary school before they enter as students. LISD Librarian Deirdre Steinbrueck and Lopez Library will be hosting “library commercials” that highlight various parts of their library and how they relate to our island’s younger population. LIFRC continues to work with all our partners to help provide enriching and engaging opportunities for our youngest learners to create a brighter future!

Making it Happen

Thanks to grants from Humanities Washington and the McEachern Foundation, we’re able to create a welcoming and impactful program that fosters a love of reading and strengthens family connections.
Together, we can make a difference in the lives of local families, ensuring every child has the tools to thrive.
