You might also like to consider donating your Required Minimum Distribution to LIFRC. Retirees can give up to $100,000 to a charity tax-free and have it count as their required minimum distribution for the year, even if that’s more than your RMD. The IRS requires these distributions from traditional 401(k) and IRA’s after reaching age 70-1/2. A donation to LIFRC would count towards your required minimum distribution but isn’t included in your adjusted gross income. You can give your RMD to charity anytime during the year once you have turned 70-1/2.
The Lopez Island Family Resource Center is a 501c(3) tax exempt organization, IRS Section 170(b)(2)(iii) for both federal and state tax purposes. Tax ID#:91-1919212
