Energy Assistance

If you are struggling with high heating costs, the LIFRC may be able to help you.  We can connect you with two programs to help you stay warm this winter:

Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is a federally-funded block grant that assists low-income households in meeting their immediate home energy needs.  LIHEAP provides financial assistance with home heating costs (wood, propane, electric, and/or oil) for qualified households.  Individuals, seniors and families with incomes between 0-125% of the federal poverty level may qualify. See the chart below for income guidelines.  The LIFRC, in conjunction with the Opportunity Council, is pleased to offer this program to the Lopez community.  Each year we are allotted a specific amount of slots for awards, and we schedule interviews after funding is received in the fall.  All appointments are confidential.

If you would like to sign up for energy assistance, please contact the Lopez Island Family Resource Center at 360-468-4117.

In order to qualify, you also must have an annual household income (before taxes) that is below the following amounts:
